TOP 10 New Year’s ‘Without a Box’ Resolutions

Diverse Goals to take on in 2017:

  1. Lose weight by trimming your bling or dysfunctional cosmetic implants, whichever is heavier
  2. Organize your files in non-alphabetical order to increase the impact of random chance
  3. Post a list of resolutions in declining font size and brightness so the later ones can be overlooked more easily
  4. Add a microchip in your business card so it will whine if a week passes without the recipient handling it
  5. Invent a new species and become its trusted advisor in bilateral negotiations
  6. Memorize the first and last lines of book chapters so you sound like you are well read
  7. Hang up a world map as a dart board to select your travel destinations
  8. Develop your own social networking site and then turn it into a secret society
  9. Get a special phone number for keeping script-bound service providers on indefinite hold
  10. Take back-to-back courses on empathy and callousness, then have a point-counterpoint debate with yourself

TOP 10 Canadian Thanksgiving Gratitudes

Like many longstanding holidays, Thanksgiving Day has its traditional elements, but has also come to remind us of modern lifestyle aspects to appreciate.

Interestingly, of the holidays recognized in both Canada and the U.S., this is the only one celebrated at different times: in Canada, on the second Monday in October, in the U.S. on the fourth Thursday. (In the latter case this has typically dovetailed into four-day weekends, and the recent emergence of ‘Black Friday’ shopping madness.) (more…)

Creative Hot Weather Warnings

This is the time of year in our hemisphere when the weather at times, like now, can get quite hot.

Amazingly, year after year, weather ‘experts’ continue to feed a diatribe of trite warnings, like drinking plenty of liquids, using suntan lotion, and staying out of the sun during the heat of the day. (Perhaps a follow-up email could verify this by census.) As seemingly intrusive as questions are, there remain many unexplored areas… (more…)

Impressive Canadian/American Similar Traits

With Canada’s P.M. doing a modern version of dining with the king this week in Washington, D.C., this is an opportunity to reflect on Canadian and American similarities….

  • Both countries feature loonies, in one case in currency, in the other case in elected office
  • Canadian performers go to the U.S. to find fame and make a fortune, while American producers come to Canada to find fame and save a fortune
  • Both countries have a Tea Party, but Canada’s version connects with music (more…)

Adaptability of skills and responses – need we say more…

  • When waters are muddied, have an alternate supply ready
  • Have a safety net to protect you from things that bug you

TOP 10 Darwinian Halloween Escapades

When the laws of survival collide with the abandon of Halloween

  • Invite zombies over to your house for trick or treat snacks
  • See how many candles can be lit in a giant pumpkin by trying it indoors first
  • Have a ‘dance till you drop’ party for fans still around from the 1975 release of The Rocky Horror Picture Show (more…)
