Bricks Make the Man

IMG-20140727-00058

This picture is of a lego bricks version of famed American humourist Mark Twain, which greets visitors to his home and museum in West Hartford, Connecticutt. It is an ironicly constructed image, in that his legacy of writing has survived like a solid brick, but a review of his life shows that he had his share of rebuilding after family and career setbacks.  Ultimately, he stands out as a foundation of historic works.

Memorable quote # 4

Classic TV Perspective # 2

One of the by-products of being able to see past TV series on DVD or YouTube is opportunity to witness the development of character arcs, and how well they fit into the setting of cast relationships. Moreover, being able to see multiples episodes, even seasons, of a series reveals how, what on an original weekly broadcast were minor eccentric annoyances, become cumulatively persistent irritations.   (more…)

There’s nothing you can do that can’t be done, Nothing                                                                         You can sing that can’t be sung.                                                                                                                       Nothing you can say, but you can learn how to play the game,                                                         It’s easy. Part-Way Open

Today we had the completion of the third of pro golf’s major tournaments, the British Open. Rather, that’s what it used to be called.  In recent times it has unshackled reference to its host nation, and now is generally, simply referred to as ‘the Open’.

I don’t recall a vote among international tournament officials sanctioning this change. The reality is that a number of years ago the U.S. broadcast media, primarily responsible for the live feeds to North America, was persuaded to alter (more…)

Sign of some improvement

Here is a follow-up to my posting June 29th of the questionable direction sign leading to Ottawa International Airport:

In the last couple of days, I’ve had correspondence with a senior person in the city’s traffic services branch posting department.  He provided a picture of the pending new green sign, to be replacing the current one (see picture below) soon.IMG-20140628-00046

The new green sign is the same size, with ‘TO/VERS’ plus ‘TERMINAL/AEROGARE’ removed. Also, there is (more…)

The Big ‘Sleeps’

Can we please have people in the media not use the juvenile expression about how many ‘sleeps’ there are until some event arrives, especially when it is adult oriented? (more…)

Memorable quote # 1

“Lives of great men all remind us

We can make our live sublime,

And, departing, leave behind us

Footprints on the sands of time.”

                                                  Henry Wadsworth Longfellow

& lyrics from ‘Assault and Battery’ by Hawkwind

Solar spotlight

While traveling back and forth to a nearby provincial park for a swim on this warm summer day, we had an opportunity once again to view the massive solar panel set up near Galetta, about a forty minute drive west of Ottawa. (more…)
