Clichés Upgraded – Part XXIX

Holiday weekend time, with more enlivened clichés (with the original in italics):

  • Sitting on your toes is a good way to create compressed toenails
  • I’ll ask you to pencil it in, just so we have a complete box of your colouring
  • One good turn deserves another turn as a bonus, which ends when overturned (more…)

The Amorphous Call of Mentoring

The May issue of Toastmaster magazine includes a pair of articles concerning mentoring.  An endeavour with seemingly altruistic overtones (especially from the mentor’s perspective), in practice both the mentor and the mentee should benefit from the relationship. (more…)

Effective storytelling helps illustrate any theme which benefits from being relatable…

Memorable Quotes # 22

Memorable Quotes: Tales of Screenwriters – Part Eleven

The First Taste of Success – the agent’s point of view:

Because those are the stats, every time you’ve actually gone through that process…it’s a certain kind of high, you know. (more…)

The Artistic Plane Truth

Yesterday I had an opportunity to visit the National Art Gallery in Ottawa to see special exhibits of two favourite artists, Alex Colville and M.C. Escher.  I didn’t realize until viewing the juxtaposition of their works that they shared a structural methodology. (more…)

Passing the Service Torch

When I departed the financial services industry in late 2013, one main reason I was able to do so economically was being eligible for a five-year income payout.  This was part of company policy in place for years for consultants departing under good terms, although until the year I left the payout was for a shorter period (one occasion on my part of really good timing). It was based on a valuation for assets passed on to other consultants, i.e. clients for whom they would take over servicing. (more…)
