Creative commentary plus crafty composition

It still happens.  It happened again today.

I was making a phone call to set up a dental appointment, and was put on hold at the clinic.  I wasn’t surreptitiously ignored, but was given the verbal rote “Just a moment, please”.  As usual, this proved to be an extremely inaccurate time frame, as I hung up unfulfilled after a couple of minutes.  Fortunately for me, it wasn’t an urgent issue, so I could afford to be pro-active. This is the fifth of a series devoted to the notion that, despite what passes for a ‘reality show’ today, there is always room for marketing a less meaningful or suitable concept.   Read the rest of this entry »

Yesterday during the TV coverage of the women’s tennis final at Wimbleton (England), in the early stages of the broadcast, viewers were exposed to a very unfortunate comment from a well-known, outspoken ‘analyst’, John McEnroe. Read the rest of this entry »

Late last year on YouTube, numerous episodes of a classic television legal drama were posted, at long last.  This one-hour program, on ABC for two seasons from 1967-1969, is still not available on DVD, though yours truly has been periodically checking on-line for years.

Sign of confusion

This is the sign on Uplands Drive south which is supposed to direct travelers to Ottawa International Airport. Note that in the upper right hand corner is the only airport related notation, representing about one-sixth of the overall space. Unless one catches sight of it and knows that ‘terminal’ means ‘main airport entrance’, it would be easy to miss. (I was witness to this folly recently.) It’s high time the city spent a little of its signage budget to correct this distracting, second-class, and deteriorating notice. Good thing this isn’t Canada’s capital – oh wait, it is!
