There’s a broadcaster for the New York Yankees baseball team who belts out whenever a Yankees player hits a home run, “See Ya!”. I’ll grant that at least it’s a short phrase. But it makes no sense. And I’m not saying this because I’ve never cared a whit for the Yankees. (I grew up a Montreal Expos fan. As they’re not around anymore, I’ve reluctantly become a Toronto Blue Jays follower.) (more…)

In this digital age there is an ongoing controversy concerning the value of maintaining, not to mention extolling, traditional print communication via books, magazines, and newspapers. Today, June 4, 2015 marks the first anniversary of this blog site. (I also had my annual check-up this morning, but that’s not an event to be particularly enjoyed or celebrated, especially after reaching a certain age threshold.)

When I departed the financial services industry in late 2013, one main reason I was able to do so economically was being eligible for a five-year income payout. This was part of company policy in place for years for consultants departing under good terms, although until the year I left the payout was for a shorter period (one occasion on my part of really good timing). It was based on a valuation for assets passed on to other consultants, i.e. clients for whom they would take over servicing. (more…)
